K. in London Day 7: Holland Park!

London vlogs are coming to an end and I must admit that I’m feeling pretty sad about it. Not only because it’s the last one but also because it deals with one of the places I liked most. Holland Park neighborhood  is a little bit higher than Notting Hill (to the North) and the area is not a touristic area just because there’s nothing to see. By nothing, I mean there’s no famous monument, no shops, no museums and the park is tiny compared to the other ones like Regent Park. Which… You know… Is something I’m way more into than walking on Oxford Street.

Holland Park is indeed a lovely area where I loved getting lost. At first, I only wanted to go and see Holland Park (the park I mean) because I had been to Camden earlier in the morning and was already tired. I didn’t expect to stay there too long thus. However, when I came out of the station, I was able to discover a very socially rich area full of houses suiting to their financial state: HUUUUUUGE!! I was thus entering into a world I clearly didn’t belong to but where I didn’t have any problem in getting lost into it. The weather was still sunny so I first headed to my first aim: finding the park. On my way to it, I think I didn’t stop having huge wide opened eyes: I was amazed by the beauty of the neighborhood.

Pour info, ce n’est pas qu’une rue ici. Y EN A PLEIN!!!

Don’t think it was only one street: THERE ARE PLENTY OF STREETS LIKE THAT!!!

I then found the park and was really surprised by its size: very small compared to others. However it was wonderful full of different places with different atmospheres where calm is a kind of king… Except for peacocks. Do you know peacocks are really noisy when they shout?  I was also very surprised by the variety of plants in the park. Squirrels can therefore run in the middle of an alley full of Japanese maples, playing with koïs in the Kyoto garden or sneaking up into a small shaded fresh grove where parents with children are the only persons authorized (as good Belgians, one would quickly think it would be a great place for pedophiles…).

Finally, when I came out of the park, I didn’t know where I was but I wasn’t worried at all: I was at the richs’!!!! While walking through those big houses, I discovered something I didn’t know before: the mews. Mews are narrow streets or courts where small houses (which were stables back in the days) have been modernized and which charm didn’t get lost into renovation. It made me think to our ‘impasses’ (lovely dead end streets) in Liège where you have the feeling that inhabitants let you have a sight into their intimacy and thus, where peace and quiet are masters making you feel incredibly good and peaceful.
